RW Works Ltd is the independent design, maker and retail Workshop run by Richard Williamson, everything on this website is designed/made by myself, all hand cut and saddle stitched in my small West London workshop, W7.
I started working with leather in 2007 and haven’t stopped since.
With decades before of tinkering with old motorbikes and cars as a hobby, I first turned to working with leather when I couldn’t find what I wanted to buy so thought I’d make it myself.
It was a fairly crude looking laced card holder, but that was the ‘light bulb’ moment, discovering what an incredibly versatile, unique and satisfying material leather is. I spent the next four years making and learning about leathers and how to work them until launching my webshop in 2012.
I take pride in making everything one piece at a time having chosen the best leather for it’s particular task. I do have a preference for pull-up (distressed) leathers so you’ll see a few popping up here.
I have no interest in trying to compete with ‘fast fashion’ with its faux leather, that’s just not what I’m about and won’t give it any air time here.
‘Handmade’ takes time, there’s no getting away from it, so I want my products to stand the test of time.
So it starts by choosing the best leathers and hardware to work into my finished products.
I personally select each leather hide I work with from various UK Leather Merchants and Tanneries.
For more information about the leathers I source and use in all my products, please refer to the 'Leather' tab at the foot of the website.
The process of saddle stitching leather ensures access to the stitched seam. It’s a far stronger stitch than on a sewing machine. So if after years or decades of use the saddle stitch needs repaired, it can be done. It makes the product much more sustainable, another reason to buy handmade.
Thanks for reading and I hope it’s encouraged you to seek out and buy from independent makers, not just me.
